Flight 3 Champions!

​Jillian and her Cowlitz 18-1 Black team continued their climb up the CEVA Open Power League rankings after going undefeated in Flight 3 on Saturday at the Portland Expo Center.

It was a rollercoaster day filled with comebacks and blown leads, but they always found a way to pull out the victory. There were lots of 3 set matches, so Sweetie Pie was exhausted at the end, but she provided the stability in running the offense that was needed. Once again, Jillian made Adam’s day with the finals victory:

The team will now move up to Flight 2 in the Open division (the top 9-16 teams).

Pep Band

​Bridget has been playing percussion with the Pep Band at the basketball games, including this one - RAL boys basketball vs. Hudson’s Bay. She played the cymbals, and due to lack of space, she was confined to the doorway.

Warrior No. 26

​Adam played basketball with his Warrior team at Alki Middle School, splitting games 1-1. Adam played tough defense, disrupting the other team’s offense and coming up with several steals.

Touring Olympic

​Jillian visited the campus of Olympic Community College in Bremerton with Mom and Dad, meeting with the track coach and the volleyball coach. She had been in contact with both of them, and was invited to check out the college.

Four young men on the track team gave us a tour (3 of them were throwers, so they were big guys), and we even got to see the dorms down the street. Then we sat down with the coaches for a Q & A. Like the Clark track coach, Jillian was offered a scholarship, as her 400 meter time (64 seconds) is getting attention.

Baby Jo

​We had seen little cousin Jo for the first time over Christmas, but this was the first time we had seen her awake. Debs brought her to the Kings Way vs Castle Rock basketball game, so we spent the game holding her, as well as playing with the little Johnson cousins.

Tor came along to watch, and did some shoot-around afterwards.

MLK Seattle Kickoff Champs!

​Jillian and her Cowlitz 18-1 Black volleyball team played in the Premiere Division of the MLK Seattle Kickoff tournament this past weekend, and were crowned champions after going undefeated in their 8 matches. They received medals as their prize:

Jillian had another stellar tournament running the 5-1 offense, and provided attacking and defense as well. She was exhausted when it was all over!

Tor made the trip up with Mom and Jillian, and enjoyed watching the high level volleyball action (as well as hanging out at Nikki and John’s house with their dog Dharma):

Heather’s life-long Seattle friend Laura came to watch on Saturday:

It has been an enjoyable season with this team, with the positivity and teamwork from everyone.

And Jillian has really liked playing for Coach Kelsey (along with Coach Naillon and Y Ta):

Battle of Olympus

​The Cowlitz 16-1 Black team had a great tournament in the Battle of Olympus, finishing 2nd overall after a close match against Athena 16-3 Gold Select. Earlier in the semis, they had multiple comebacks against NWAS Kelso before winning in another tight one. Bridget had an outstanding weekend at the net, providing needed blocking and attacks, as well as occasional back row defense. They received this squishy as a prize:
