Camp Cispus

Tor spent this past weekend at the Cispus Outdoor School, and Mom went along as a parent chaperone. Here's Tor with his "Kindness" award that his counselor gave to him on the last day:

Tor's group included his high school counselor Gage, and Olympic classmates Daniel, Jayden and Parker.

He stayed in the False Hemlock cabin with a lot of other boys. Tor said it was very hard to sleep at night, because of all the talking:

Classes throughout the week included Science (life cycles), Plants (identification), Survival (building  shelters), Challenge Course (working together), Hiking (to Angel Falls). Tor's favorite was the hike, because it was "dangerous". Here's a picture of Tor at the Survival class:

It was mostly dry for the first couple days, so they were able to have the campfire at the outdoor pit and perform their skits (Tor's was about a romance of some kind), but it rained on the last day, forcing them under cover. Here he is with counselor Devon and his buddy Gram:

Mom spent most of her time in the cafeteria kitchen, both on "chopsticks" and "KP", and helped out where needed for the rest of the time. She was awarded the "Bad Cop" certificate:

It was a packed camp, with a bunch of other schools there, too, including Kessler and Robert Gray. This pic is just of the 5th grade students from Olympic:

Monticello Track

Bridget had her first track meet for Monticello Middle School as a 7th grader, earning a first place in the 4x200 relay as the anchor leg. The other team had slightly pulled ahead, but Bridget leaned at the tape to win by 0.1 seconds.

She also volunteered to run the mile (!), placing 6th, and ran the 200 meters and threw the discus. She was very tired and sore afterwards.

Flag Football

Tor is on the 49ers team for the NFL Flag Football League this year, along with several of his friends (Bowen, Evan, Parker & Daxton). It's actually one-hand touch instead of flags, and they play on a half field, with most plays being passes. Tor spends most of his time as a wide receiver and defensive back:

In today's game against the Chargers (a close loss), Tor had an interception, a catch from Bowen for a touchdown, and a throw to Evan for a touchdown.

April Power League

Jillian's Cowlitz 16 Black team had a slow start to the day, but then came on strong to finish first in their division. Jillian played very well, particularly with setting some difficult balls.

The team was missing Lily and Macy, so Jillian played all the way around, and had some attacks and blocks.

Ollie's Coffee

In between matches at Jillian's volleyball tourney, we visited downtown Ridgefield and found a small street vendor area. The coffee at Ollie's was very good, and Tor also got some French fries and Mom got some street tacos.

Spring Dance

Bridget went to the Monticello Spring Dance last night. It was put on by the PTO, so Mom was there helping organize. Here's Bridget with neighbor Ila:

Olympic Champion

Tor was awarded Olympic Champion for being "Respectful" this past week. This pic was posted on the school Facebook page ... Tor is at the bottom:

Wednesdays with Kenny & Rory

Every Wednesday, the Woodruff house gets a special treat ... the little Johnson girls come for the day to be babysat by Mom. On this day, Dad also was home, and since it was sunny and warm, we walked to the "new" park (that's what our kids called it) to play. Kenny rode the swing and explored a little, but she was drawn to the lake. We gave her some rocks to throw in ... her right hand is definitely the better throwing arm:

Rory enjoyed the big two-person swing with her Auntie Heather, though she was more interested in just looking around:

Of course, Kenny wanted to see the ducks, and she kept walking up to them and reaching out to pet them, but they always kept their distance:

Back at the house, Jillian showed up after school, having just enough time to visit the girls before heading off for track practice:

Then it was time for some Coco-Melon on YouTube. Tor always loves to watch a long with Kenny:

Bingo & Pizza Night

Tor didn't win any bingo games at the Olympic Bingo & Pizza Night, but he got to hang out with his school buddies and eat Domino's pizza. One of his friends did give him something that they won ... a marble set.

Meanwhile, Mom was working hard as the PTO president to keep the evening working smoothly.

Blazers vs. Pelicans

Uncle Dan and Aunt Robins took Tor and his classmate Parker to a Trailblazer basketball game on Tuesday night against the Pelicans. The Blazers lost, but they still had a good time. The seats were really good:

Tor said they they were on the Jumbotron a couple times, one of them because of a cute baby just in front of them. For dinner, the boys had chicken strips and waffle fries, and Dippin' Dots for dessert.

Uncle Dan and Aunt Robin gave Tor another gift at the game -- a Scoot Henderson jersey!

Grannie's 84th B-day Party

Papa Bob got Papa Pete's pizza for dinner, and Aunt Lynne brought dessert. After treats and presents, we tried for a picture with the Johnson girls, but Rory was having a hard time ... so we waited until later and tried again.

Mom worked her magic with Rory, and got her to relax a bit:

April Winter Woolies

This was the rescheduled Winter Woolies horse show to make up for the cancelled January show. Saturday was English saddle, and Bridget and Handsome continued doing well, winning 5 blue ribbons and 1 red ribbon.

Funland

It's been years since visiting Funland, so Tor requested that we go today. The games haven't changed much in all these years. Tor spent most of his time on the mini-hoop shoot (of course):

He earned 530 points, mostly from one game that awarded 300 points ... and he bought a couple boxes of M&M's.

Lazy Beach

This was the extent of our activity at the beach on this short trip ... Tor shot some baskets on the pickleball courts.

He slept in til 11:00 am, since he's been congested for a few days. Then, he watched a bunch of shows, such as Garfield, Tom and Jerry, and Space Jam 2.

Pig 'n Pancake

When given a choice, Tor picked Pig 'n Pancake for dinner, because he wanted breakfast.

He was also super hungry after swimming ... his main focus was on the pancakes and the meats.

Afterwards, we went to Jack's Country Store, and picked out our own pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream to eat while we watched Tor's Red Box movie pick of Free Guy (a videogame-oriented show).

Astoria Pool

It's been years since we've been to the Astoria Aquatic Center. The water was a nice temperature, so Tor was able to stay in for a while.

The highlight was the addition of a basketball hoop ... once Tor got his hands on the basketball, he shot baskets for pretty much the entire time:

First Golf of the Season

Tor had wanted to play on the big course, but Mint Valley was packed due to the nice weather, so we had to settle for a round on the par 3. As usual, it was a Warm-up round after the long layoff, but Tor was still able to make some nice shots:

Godzilla x Kong

Tor and Dad kicked off our boys week (the girls are in Arizona) by going to the movie theater to watch the latest Godzilla and King Kong flick.

As a special treat, it was in 3-D, so we got to wear the cool glasses.

Electric Dreams

Tor went to his school friend Axel's birthday party at a small VR room, where all the kids wore Oculus goggles and played an interactive shoot-em game. It was actually pretty funny to watch:
