Cascade Volleyball

 After school we went to Cascade Middle School to watch Rielee play for Coweeman in the 8th grade match.  Her team lost but Rielee played very well.

Then they watched Tierney coach the 7th grade Cascade team. It was a good match as Cascade had to come from behind to win. Tor was always keeping track of the score.

Girls' First Day of School

It took awhile due to the teacher's strike, but Jillian and Bridget finally had their first day of school today. Jillian is in Mrs. Hewitt's 5th grade class, while Bridget is in Mrs. Parr's 2nd grade class.

Last Day of Summer Vacation

 No school on Monday and it was warm out so they rode scooters until dark.  They thought they got to stay up so-o-o late but they didn't realize that it got dark earlier and being cloudy helped, and it wasn't even 8 o'clock.

 Jillian got this Ripstick mastered and she could play badminton on it.

 Bridget worked on getting better and they managed to hold on to each other and spin in a circle.

Brock got to play with them most of the day and it was cute when Tor went in to get a hat and wore it the same way Brock did.

Papa Bob and Tierney's B-day Party

The kids helped Papa Bob (79) and Tierney (24) unwrap their birthday presents. Then, they ate some pie and headed downstairs to play while the adults watched the Seahawks lose.

Start of the Soccer Season

All 3 kids, Jillian, Bridget and Tor, are playing soccer this year. It just turned out that their first games this season were all at the same time on Saturday. Jillian played in CR with her U12 team - she is playing up in an older age division this year, since her last year's coach moved up and thought she could handle playing against older girls. Jillian definitely found out that they are bigger and faster, and her team fell 0-3, but they played hard. She also learned about the offsides rule after being called for it several times.

Maybe Missing School?

 Right away this morning Tor asked to do "School of Torture". Lately he has enjoyed reading some of his favorite books instead of just "reading" books.  Last night he read Ten Little Dinosaurs which he had heard many times so he kind of knew how it went.  Today he started with Big Dog, Little Dog and he did very well. In today's lesson he got an introduction to the long vowels as they came up in some of the harder books.

 While Tor was reading upstairs, Bridget wanted to do math with Jillian downstairs. Jillian tries to challenge her with problems she will be facing in the higher grades.

Then when Tor finished his reading, he headed downstairs for a math session with Jillian.

Of course, all of this fell apart as soon as Brock came and they all went outside to play games on the scooters and Ripsticks.  Jillian is getting quite skilled on the Ripstick and even tried some tricks.

Kids Day at the Beach

Time for the annual kids day at the beach! Jillian, Bridget and Tor were joined by Tierney, Cale, Erika and Brock.

We actually got to the cabin on Friday night after a nice dinner at Buoy Beer in Astoria, but it was late so we went to bed right after a show. Early in the morning, the younger kids kept up the tradition of waking up the older kids by jumping on the them.

After breakfast, we took off for the beach, successfully crossing "poop river".

It was nice when we got there, but then it poured down rain. The kids huddled under the beach tent with Grannie.

When the rain stopped, the kids had a relay race, for the prize of two scoops of ice cream, and the little kids won!

We stopped by the tall dunes to do a little cliff jumping.

As always, we followed the beach with ice cream at Adelaide's.

Everyone took an afternoon break to watch the Husky football team lose to Auburn. Then we made a quick trip to the beach to play in the water.

Dinner was hot dogs and s'mores. We also played some cornhole and spikeball.

The evening ended with the traditional viewing of See Spot Run, when Tor made himself comfortable on Brock.
